A couple of the people who read this blog know what RSS feeds are. However, I'm sure most don't. Feeds are a great way of getting the information you want from the internet without going to 25 different web sites. Here is a great intro to RSS feeds that has been "Oprah-ized" so it doesn't sound like me explaining it!
After suffering for four years with a lacking frame relay "high speed" internet, I finally got seriously upgraded. I have fiber right to my house now via Verizon FiOS. Here are the before and after speeds:
Old DSL: Download Speed: 702 kbps (87.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 119 kbps (14.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
FiOS: Download Speed: 15221 kbps (1902.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 1798 kbps (224.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
That's a 22x improvement on download speed and 15x improvement on upload speed. Plus, it's cheaper! Call me a happy camper today!
Not the musical. Meg and I went and spent Labor Day at the Oregon State Fair. A great place to spend an afternoon and people watch, not to mention eat the finest in health food like elephant ears! A few pictures are up here.
Last Sunday (yes, the day after Hood to Coast), the Anderson family came together for the first time in decades. This was a gathering of the four Anderson brothers, with my father's dad Richard being my connection. It was wonderful not only to see people I hadn't seen in years, but to see people I have never seen. This was a nice bookend from last summers Case family reunion which was my father's mother's side of the family. Now we need to get something going on my mother's side. Mom?
Just over a week ago was the 2006 Hood to Coast Relay. This was my fourth year running, and, as always, was a really fun time. I'm not sure how running three 10K races in 24 hours is fun, but oddly enough, it is. The team did great aside from a couple slightly-botched transitions. I was about nine seconds per mile slower than last year. I guess I'm still getting older! Pictures
On August 6, several of us did the Mid-Summer Triathlon. I did the running leg of a triathlon relay along with Ken swimming and Kevin on the bike. Meg did the whole enchilada, and it was her first Olympic distance. Good fun!
It has been a long time since my last post. For that, I'm sorry. Time has been quite a precious, and the blog got put on the back burner. So, this is update #1.
In mid-July I went to Taipei and Tokyo for my current work project. Taipei was all work. It was good to see many people I know there. Unfortunately, Jim Lin was in Singapore that week. No time for fun stuff beyond some good dinners, but I have seen Taipei.
Luckily, I did get a weekend in Tokyo. Here I was lucky to have Matt as well as Loren's friends show me around a bit. Tokyo was wonderful. I never really had a desire to go there, but now I do. There is a wonderful sense of tradition and honor that almost goes to the extreme. I must say I am now looking forward to returning as soon as I can.
